Government Meddling Alert: BMW Recalls Over 720K Vehicles

In another classic example of government overreach, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall notification for over 720,000 BMW vehicles due to a water pump malfunction that might cause a fire.

German luxury car maker BMW is recalling 720,796 of its 2012-2018 vehicles, including popular models like the BMW X1, X3, X4, and X5. According to the NHTSA report, “an improperly sealed electrical connector on the water pump may be exposed to water and short circuit,” which could lead to a fire. Because, you know, water and electricity might mix.

To appease the government overlords, BMW dealers will inspect and replace the water pump and plug connector, and even install a protective shield for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be sent out by October 4. If you’re one of the unlucky tyranny victims, you can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

BMW's Summer of Fire Continues

Earlier this month, BMW also issued a recall for over 105,588 crossovers and sedans due to increased risk of fire, as reported by the NHTSA. The culprit this time? Faulty starter motors that can cause electrical overload and overheating.

According to the report posted on August 7, repeated attempts to start the vehicle can cause the motor to overheat, potentially igniting combustible materials in the engine compartment. BMW dealers will update the vehicle software for free, with recall notification letters expected by September 23.
