Parking rules have changed at Alamo Drafthouse's South Lamar location. The parking garage attached to the movie theater chain quietly rolled out a paid model last week, a change that caused online backlash. Alamo Drafthouse acknowledged the unexpected change in a social media post and said it is "working on finding the best long-term solution" for its employees and guests.alamo drafthouse south lamar For now, film fanatics will still be able to park for free. The company posted a series of instructions for patrons: 1. When you park, scan the QR code inside the garage you're using. 2. Select the garage you're in and the type of space, excluding "star spaces," which are marked with additional signage. 3. Select four hours of validation for Alamo Drafthouse. Based on in-app screenshots, visitors to neighboring businesses Modern Animal and Antonelli's Cheese Shop can also validate their parking. 4. In the Alamo Drafthouse lobby, use the tablet kiosk to confirm that validation. Your card will be preauthorized for the hourly rate, but the authorization should be released after validation. 5. If you plan to see multiple movies, "re-validate" at the kiosk for an additional period. Alamo Drafthouse employees on-site can answer questions or provide assistance if needed. The company said the new parking rules are subject to change as it continues to negotiate with Lamar Union Plaza. Employees of Alamo Drafthouse will receive parking validation for their full shifts through a separate kiosk. The company also confirmed that parking for all Fantastic Fest attendees will be validated at no additional cost. Moviegoers on Reddit were vocal about their disdain for the new parking rules. One user acknowledged the validation model, but said the process is "annoying." In its social media post, Alamo Drafthouse said it is aware of "traffic jams" at the kiosk, and more kiosks are on the way.
