Iconic Austin mini-golf course Peter Pan Putt Putt has been granted a six-month lease extension by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, pushing the lease expiration date to March 31, 2025. The business, a 76-year-old Austin staple, has been struggling to secure its future as the land it occupies is controlled by the John C. Wende Trust, which was set up to benefit the state's orphans.

"We appreciate the well wishes and show of support expressed by our wonderful fans. We are humbled by the affection for Peter Pan Mini Golf. Our sincere and heartfelt thank you!"
-- Margaret Dismukes Massad, daughter of founder Glenn Dismukes

In an Instagram post, the company expressed hope that this extension would lead to a longer-term arrangement: "Our goal is to continue to work with the landowner to negotiate a longer-term, multi-year lease."

The course has a rich history, with two 18-hole courses and zany sculptures, it has been a family-run business for 75 years. However, with lease renewals now in the hands of a third-party trustee, as mandated by the Texas Legislature in 2022, the future of this Austin original remains uncertain.
