Tesla Recalls Over 27,000 Cybertrucks Due to Rearview Camera Delay

Tesla announced Thursday a recall of more than 27,000 Cybertrucks due to a delay in rearview camera images, which could impair driver visibility and increase the risk of crashes. The company stated that a software update would address the issue.

This recall affects most Cybertrucks in the U.S. and is the model's largest recall to date. Previously, Tesla issued recalls in April for a loose accelerator pedal pad and in June for problems with windshield wipers and exterior trim.

The electric vehicle maker began Cybertruck deliveries in November after a two-year delay caused by production issues and battery supply constraints. Tesla has not disclosed production or delivery numbers for the Cybertruck.

CEO Elon Musk launched the "Blade Runner"-inspired truck to refresh the company's aging lineup amid slowing EV demand. The model's issues are closely monitored by investors due to the significant resources Tesla has invested in its development.

Tesla reported Thursday that the affected vehicles' system might not complete a shutdown process before it is commanded to boot up, causing a delay in displaying the rearview image. The image might not appear within two seconds of placing the vehicle in reverse, and the display might remain blank for up to eight seconds when shifting into reverse, according to a report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The company identified the issue in early October, and all Cybertrucks currently in production have received the software fix.
