Lifelong Republican to Vote Democrat Due to Paxton and Abbott's Actions

As a lifelong Republican and gun owner, Brad Thomas, former Carrollton City Council member, has stated that he will be voting for more Democrats in November than he has since his first election in 1974. This decision is a direct response to the actions of Ken Paxton and Greg Abbott.

Thomas calls Paxton a "disgrace" for suing Dallas to allow guns at the State Fair under the guise of "safety." He compares this idea to "Archie Bunker’s idea to stop skyjacking by arming all passengers getting on planes." Following the impeachment trial, Thomas vows never to vote for any House member who didn’t vote to impeach Paxton or any senator who found him not guilty.

Greg Abbott’s voucher program is also a point of contention. Thomas argues that it is not school choice but a "taxpayer subsidy for private school tuition." He believes true school choice involves letting parents choose any public school in their district or state. Most respected private schools are already full with long waitlists, and if Abbott’s vouchers pass, the same students will attend, but tuition will rise by the voucher amount. Thomas promises never to vote for any legislator who supports vouchers.

Thomas asserts that extremists have taken over the Republican Party, labeling the MAGA crowd as the "real RINOs" and calling Reagan and Eisenhower Republicans by the same name.
