An Evening at the Pfield: Football, Crickets, and Axe Body Spray

I was recently persuaded to attend a football game by one of the younger boys. Living near the expansive Pfield stadium made it an easy choice. As we approached, the brilliant white of Friday night lights enveloped us, and the long line hinted at a significant rivalry game.

Twenty minutes later, we entered the stadium. The 8- and 9-year-olds insisted on sitting at the top, so up 42 bleacher steps we went. The game had already begun, but the boys were more interested in the crickets swarming the stadium lights than the action on the field.

Despite the grandeur of high school football, many spectators were glued to their phones. The air was filled with more than just anticipation; Axe body spray and expletives competed for dominance. The boys, however, were captivated by the "cricket game," cheering as the insects dive-bombed the crowd.

We didn't stay for the entire game, but the boys were thrilled to find even more crickets in the parking lot. While high school football may be a Texas tradition, it might not be the best fit for elementary-aged children or those with insect phobias.
