Austin City Limits Music Festival Weekend Two Sees Drop in Resale Prices

The Austin City Limits (ACL) Music Festival saw unprecedented resale demand for single-day and three-day wristbands last week, with scalpers along Barton Springs Rd. projecting or demanding up to $400 for a single-day and $1,250 for a three-day pass. However, weekend two is a different story despite near-identical headliners.

"Go to the bar this week. Save a ton of money next week," a reseller accurately predicted last week. Along Barton Springs Rd., prices have dropped significantly, with one vendor selling one-day wristbands for $180 and three-day wristbands for $280.

Another reseller initially offered a one-day band for $300 but was open to haggling, unlike last week when a reseller refused to budge from $400 per person for a group of three men less than three hours before headliners took the stage.

Demand could still fluctuate, as three other Barton Springs scalpers had no inventory to move at 1:30pm, and two others declined to comment when approached by a reporter. Online, the resale market has also cooled.

Are ACL Tickets Still Available?

Wristbands on ACL’s verified site started at $223 for a single-day pass and $320 for a three-day pass on Friday morning.

“The only way to ensure that your ACL Fest wristband is valid is if it is purchased through Front Gate Tickets or through Ticketmaster Verified Resale,” ACL organizers advise. “We discourage anyone from buying a wristband off the street or from an unverified source.”

Whatever your last-minute plan, be careful.

Beware of Scams and Resale Wristband Issues

“Don't you dare sell that wristband to anybody out there asking or offering you money,” local journalist Ford Sanders warned his 92,000 followers on TikTok this week. Sanders shared a viral video of his experience being offered $150 for two hours of ACL entertainment, only to realize later the risks involved with linked credit cards.

Every wristband is traced to the person who bought it and must be scanned in and out of the festival. Resale bands may require a manual reset if not properly scanned out, which can be a hassle.

Music fans are also warning each other about scams on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. Three-day passes for weekend two are listed for between $300 and $400 on Marketplace, but some listings, like this "General Admission Plus," come with warnings that the wristbands may fail to activate.

These are on verified resale for $775, so be cautious. If the deal seems too good to be true, it likely is.
