A severe storm hit Austin, causing damage to electrical equipment and breaking tree limbs with strong winds, hail, and lightning.

Severe Storm Hits Austin, Leaving Thousands Without Power

A severe storm passed through the Austin area on Wednesday evening, causing significant damage and leaving nearly 60,000 Austin Energy customers without power as of 10 p.m., according to the utility's website: https://austinenergy.com.
The storm damaged electrical equipment and broke tree limbs.
There is no estimated timeline for when power will be restored, according to a statement on the utility's website: https://austinenergy.com.
Several buildings were also damaged, including the Capitol, where a glass panel had been blown out and water was leaking inside parts of the building.
At a gas station on Greystone Drive in North Austin, the canopy covering the pumps collapsed on top of a car.
