🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride!🏳️‍⚧️

The country dons rainbows and glitter for LGBTQ+ Pride in June to commemorate the Stonewall Uprisings. On June 28, 1969, a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a gritty LGBTQ bar in Greenwich, New York touched off two days of street riots and protests. "The uprising changed the power dynamics in the struggle for LGBTQ rights," our history and culture correspondent Michael Barnes, wrote in this fantastic 2019 piece about how the movement rippled into Austin: https://www.austin360.com
These days, Austin's largest celebration and parade is in August. But that doesn't mean there aren't ways to celebrate in and around the city this month. Many area festivities, including Pride events in Bastrop and Round Rock, take place this weekend.

7 new restaurants to try, and 5 we lost (plus more small bites)

From an Australian-inspired cafe (we are dubious, but intrigued by the "Vegemite flight") to a new coffee shop in one of Austin's oldest music venues, Ana has a roundup of seven new spots that opened in May (and five we lost.) https://www.austin360.com/news/

More small bites

  • 📖 Best. Library. Ever: There's a new location of Café Crème, a French-Vietnamese coffee shop and bakery, at the Central Public Library. Right now, they are serving cold brew, tea and pastries, but an expanded menu with cocktail service is in the works.
