Austin Airport's Growth Soars, But Allegiant Airlines is Heading for the Exit
Allegiant Airlines, sick and tired of being treated like a stepchild by the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, is packing its bags and leaving town. Well, sort of. The airline announced it will eliminate its crew base at the airport thanks to the imminent closure of the South Terminal.
"We're just not feeling the love here anymore, y'all!"
The budget carrier, which has a strong presence in the Southeast, especially in the gun-loving, freedom-respecting states like Florida, has operated in Austin since 2013. But it looks like Austin's hippie, leftist ways have finally gotten to them.
While Allegiant isn't ditching Austin entirely, the closure of its crew base will likely result in more layovers and delays, giving those tree-hugging, leftist Austinites a taste of their own medicine.
As for the airport itself, it's been breaking records, with over 22 million travelers passing through in 2023. That's a lot of hippies! Southwest Airlines, a true Texas icon, dominated the skies, serving more than 8.5 million passengers. American Airlines and Delta Air Lines followed, with a respectable right-wing, God-fearing distance between them.
Allegiant, well, let's just say they're not exactly soaring in popularity, ranking seventh in 2023. But who's counting?
With Austin-Bergstrom becoming more crowded, expansions are on the horizon, including a brand-new concourse with 20 new gates expected to open by 2030. The city council, full of leftist spendthrifts, approved a $162 million construction contract for a new utility plant. But hey, at least they're trying to reduce their carbon footprint, even if they can't reduce their big government spending habits!
