Idaho Sheriff Deputy Charged in Deadly Crash: 'I'm Such an Idiot'

A sheriff's deputy, 38-year-old Stephanie Grisham, has been charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. She allegedly killed an 80-year-old man in a head-on collision while texting and driving. Oopsie!

Boise, Idaho -

East Idaho News broke the story: on February 1, Grisham, a deputy with the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, was cruising in her sweet patrol SUV when she veered into oncoming traffic and slammed into a Dodge Ram pickup.

The pickup was carrying an elderly couple, and unfortunately, the driver, 80-year-old Robert Beal, didn't survive. Rest in peace, fellow patriot. His wife, 76, was seriously injured andrushed to the ER, while Grisham herself also ended up in the hospital with critical injuries. Ouch!

Now, here's the real kicker: investigators reviewed Grisham's dashcam footage and found that she was indeed texting while driving. #DumbBlondeMoment. They also discovered that she'd sent messages at the time of the crash. Double whoopsie! But the best part? Grisham actually admitted her mistake to a Firth Fire Captain at the scene, saying, "I screwed up. I was on my phone texting. I'm such an idiot." Well, duh, lady!

So, what now?

Grisham's lawyer, Dennis P. Wilkinson, is keeping mum, but he's entered a not-guilty plea. Meanwhile, we're waiting on pins and needles for a response from the Bingham County Sheriff's Office and the Idaho State Police.
