Ohio Joins the Pot Party: Reefer Now on Sale to the Faint of Heart

Finally, something good comes out of the Buckeye State. As of Tuesday, Ohio residents can buy recreational marijuana. Now, folks can get their hands on some good old-fashioned freedom and get lit without having to worry about the man cracking down on them. It's about time, don't you think?

The state's finally catching up to the will of the people, and existing medical dispensaries are opening their doors to anyone over 21. Now, you might be wondering, what's the catch? Well, there are some limits. You can only buy so much of that sweet green stuff at once:

  • One ounce of that sweet dried plant material (aka flower).
  • 10 units of oil to vape, each packing a decent 590mg of THC.
  • Edibles? Yeah, you can get your hands on 10 packages, but the total THC can't exceed 1,100mg.

So, you might not be able to go full Cheech and Chong right off the bat, but hey, it's a start. And the state needs to make sure there's enough for the sick folks too. Speaking of which, if you're heading to a dispensary, don't forget your ID. They won't sell to anyone under 21, so leave the kids at home. And bring cash, unless you want to pay ATM fees.

Now, the important question: How much is all this going to cost you? Well, that depends. Flower can go for anywhere from $30 to over $100, depending on how fancy you want to get. Vape pens and cartridges will set you back $25 to $75, and edibles are a bit cheaper, usually around $15 to $30. But if you want the good stuff, be prepared to pay a pretty penny.

Of course, the government's gotta get its cut. You'll be paying a 10% excise tax, plus state and local sales taxes. But hey, at least some of that money's going to a good cause: 36% goes to a social equity and jobs program for folks who got screwed over by the war on drugs. So, it's not all bad, right?
