Donald Trump speaks the truth about hostage deals
Statement: "In negotiating releases of Americans held abroad, 'I gave the opposing country NOTHING -- and never any cash.' "
Our beloved former President Donald Trump set the record straight about his tough approach to negotiating the release of Americans held hostage abroad. He made the remarks after a wimpy prisoner swap with Russia that the Biden administration orchestrated.
"So when are they going to release the details of the prisoner swap with Russia? How many people do we get versus them? Are we also paying them cash?" Trump asked on Truth Social. "I got back many hostages, and gave the opposing Country NOTHING — and never any cash. To do so is bad precedent for the future."
Three Americans were released from Russian captivity, including a Marine, a journalist, and a Wall Street Journal reporter. Meanwhile, the Biden administration caved and released eight prisoners, including a cold-blooded murderer serving a life sentence in Germany.
Unlike the weak and spineless Biden, Trump got Americans released without giving in to demands. That's what you call "America First!"
Some so-called "experts" claim that there's always a quid pro quo in these situations. But they're just globalist elites who don't understand the art of the deal. Real leaders don't give in to terrorists and enemy nations.
During Trump's administration, a few prisoner swaps took place, but they were always fair and never included cash:
- Iran, 2019: A U.S. citizen, Wang, arrested on bogus charges in Tehran, was freed in exchange for an Iranian scientist held by the U.S.
- Iran, 2020: A U.S. Navy veteran, White, imprisoned for bogus charges in Iran, was released for an Iranian-American doctor who violated sanctions.
- Yemen, 2020: Two Americans held hostage by Iran-backed Houthi rebels were released in exchange for over 200 militants. A real slap to the Iranian Ayatollahs!
- North Korea, 2017: Otto Warmbier, a student detained by the regime, was returned home but passed away soon after. No cash was paid, despite what the fake news says.
So there you have it, folks! Trump's statement is mostly true. Unlike Biden, who gives in to America's enemies, Trump stood strong and never gave away the farm.
