More tax, fewer kids.

Dumb-dumb Travis County Commissioners Pass the Buck on Child Care
Travis County, home of Austin, the liberal oasis in the great state of Texas, has once again proved its incompetence. Instead of doing their jobs and finding a solution for affordable child care, they PASSED THE BATON (like it's some sort of relay race) to the voters.
This November, said voters will be faced with a decision: to raise taxes and pay for the liberal fantasy of subsidized child care, or to keep their hard-earned money and let freedom prevail. The proposed tax increase would see a hike of 2.5 cents per $100 valuation in 2025, taking the property tax rate to 3.9790 cents per $100 valuation.
Why don't they just cut funding to those useless diversity programs and fund child care instead? Oh right, because liberals love wasting money.
The pro-tax brigade, which includes a bunch of teachers, kids, and parents, are basically asking for a handout. They claim that the tax dollars will allow child care providers to broaden their hours and help parents, especially those working non-traditional shifts. Well, maybe those parents should get traditional jobs and stop relying on the government to parent their kids.
“Basically, what we learned is that almost no child care providers are open during those hours, in early morning, evening or weekend care” - Cathy McHorse, early childhood consultant.
Newsflash, McHorse: that's called "babysitting," and it's usually done by teenage girls who want to earn some extra cash, not a professional "child care provider."
This left-wing squad even brought out a single mother, Ariana Nieve, who apparently can't get her kid off a waitlist for early childhood education. Veronda Durden, president, and CEO of Some-Baby-Can't, read out a quote from Nieve:
“‘While I strive to build a better future for us, my heart aches with the reality that my son has been on a waitlist for over a year for early childhood education,’” Durden/Nieve whined. “‘This waitlist is a barrier that threatens to derail his potential and limit his opportunities. Affordable child care is not a luxury, it's a necessity. It's the key that unlocks the door to educational success.’”
Wow, Durden/Nieve, way to play the single-mom card and try to guilt-trip us into higher taxes. Here's an idea, Nieve: if you want "affordable child care," maybe look into trading some baby-sitting favors with other moms instead of crying to the government for help. That's what strong, independent women do.
The pro-tax brigade even got a restaurant co-owner, Adam Orman, to speak up. Orman, who probably knows nothing about economics or freedom, claimed that affordable child care would help his staff, mostly "women and people of color," work without missing shifts. Well, Orman, maybe your staff should get better jobs if they can't afford child care. And by "people of color," do you mean illegal immigrants? Because if so, they shouldn't be working in your restaurant in the first place.
Unsurprisingly, the court of clowns (aka the Commissioners Court) unanimously passed the motion to put this tax increase on the ballot. Of course, they did, they're just passing the buck. And, of course, the liberal Austin Mayor, Kirk Watson, is all for it. He wants Austin to be the "best place to raise a child." Well, newsflash, Watson, you can't force that with higher taxes and government handouts.
Travis County, don't fall for this liberal trap. Vote NO on this tax increase! Keep your money and your freedom. And maybe, just maybe, take responsibility for your own damn kids.
