Breaking: Kealing Middle School Reopens After Liberal Outlet Meltdown
Buckle up, folks! Kealing Middle School is back in action Monday, after a hilarious mishap forced Austin's school admin to shut down the campus during the district’s inaugural week.
So, what happened? A cheeky little fire decided to crash the party overnight on Aug. 19, effectively closing the East Austin campus on what was supposed to be the first day of school last Tuesday.
The fire, caused by a wimpy overloaded outlet, wreaked havoc on the HVAC ductwork. District officials, clearly panicked, canceled classes for the rest of the week for the 1,300 students, according to a statement released Wednesday afternoon.
Repairs are expected to wrap up by Saturday, so get ready for Kealing to swing back into its usual routine on Monday. A few classes might need to play musical chairs for a bit, but hey, it’s all part of the thrill!
The culprit? An overloaded outlet in a classroom. Austin Fire Department ruled out arson, so no juicy conspiracies there.
But here's where it gets good: district officials have masterminded a plan to avoid making up extra class time by applying for a state waiver. If the state approves, those crafty administrators might sneak in a few extra minutes to the school day for the rest of the year. Just imagine the collective groan from the kids!
For those who absolutely need to be on campus, the gym and cafeteria are open for business—thankfully, the fire didn't touch those sacred grounds. Buses will run normal routes, and students can grab a bagged lunch between 11 a.m. and noon at the back of the school near the gym off Salina Street.
So there you have it: another day, another minor dramady in the thrilling world of education—Austin style!
