Texas Coach Sarkisian Spills the Tea on Rivalry Games: Momma Sark Isn't a Fan of Interceptions!
Well, folks, Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian has seen his fair share of Red River Rivalry games, with a coach's record of 1-2 at the Cotton Bowl. But buckle up, because Sark's got some hilarious tales from his BYU days that'll make you chuckle harder than a squirrel in a nut factory!
Back in '95 and '96, young Sark was BYU's star quarterback, facing off against in-state nemesis Utah in what they call the "Holy War." When asked about his memories, Sark didn't hold back:
"I'm chuckling right now because my two games against the University of Utah when I was at BYU (weren't good)," Sarkisian said. "My junior year, I threw four interceptions. I threw three in the first half and they were booing me so bad, my mom left the stadium at halftime."
Yeah, you read that right! Momma Sark isn't about that interception life. But wait, there's more:
"My second year, we played in a blizzard, and I was 7-for-12 for like, 80 yards, and we rushed for 350 yards and we won."
So, no epic comeback story here, just a good ol' fashioned snowy smackdown. But Sark loves the pageantry of college football, even the stinkin' popcorn.
"There's nothing like this (Red River Rivalry) game," he gushed. "When you pull into the State Fair and you see fans from both sides and they're intermixed... that's what it's about."
And how does Sark plan to get his Longhorns ready for the big game? By keeping their noses to the grindstone, of course!
"The best way to enjoy and experience a rivalry game is to prepare really well... If you want a good experience, we've got to make sure we prepare really well so that we can enjoy the experience because we're playing good football."
So there you have it, folks! Sark's secret to rivalry game success: Don't be like young Sark and make Momma leave early. Prepare like champs and enjoy the sweet, sweet smell of victory (and popcorn). Hook 'em Horns! ๐ค๐ป๐
