Tax-Loving Liberals Strike Again: Georgetown Fire Chief Wants YOUR Money!

In a never-ending quest to separate you from your hard-earned cash, officials are back at it, begging voters to hike the sales tax rate this November. Why? To build fire stations, of course! Because who needs fiscal responsibility when you can just tax, tax, tax?

Last year, sensible voters shot down this money-grabbing scheme by a mere 250 votes. But like a zombie, it's back! In 2022, 61% said "no way," and in 2007, a whopping 78% gave it the boot. But hey, third time's the charm, right?

Georgetown Fire Chief and tax enthusiast John Sullivan is crossing his fingers that more voters will turn out this year. "After (last year's) election, we had a focus group meeting where we kept hearing that people had no idea what was going on," he said. Shocking! People don't want higher taxes? Who'd have thought?

The district currently has a 6.25% sales tax, but if Sullivan gets his way, it'll jump to 8.25%. Because why not make tourists and passersby pay for our stuff? Equitable, right?

A 2% hike would rake in an extra $4 million a year, Sullivan claims, and help build five new fire stations over the next decade. Because one fire station just isn't enough for an 80-square-mile area with 35,000 to 45,000 people. Let's double that population and see what happens!

BUT WAIT! If you don't approve this tax hike, Sullivan warns response times could increase. "People can't expect response times to be 10 to 15 minutes if you are doubling the number of people and double the number of calls," he said. Gasp! What's next? Anarchy?

Luckily, no organized resistance has emerged to fight this ridiculous proposition. So mark your calendars, folks! Early voting starts Oct. 21, and Election Day is Nov. 5. Don't forget to vote "NO" on Proposition A – your wallet will thank you!
