Could Tesla open a Supercharger Diner in Texas? Musk hints at possible location.

Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company launched a new business venture this week: a diner.

After first floating the idea for a drive-in where Tesla owners could dine while charging their vehicles back in 2018, the company finally opened the doors to its futuristic diner on Monday.

But that Los Angeles location might not be the only one. Musk has hinted at a possible Texas expansion.

The West Hollywood 24/7 drive-in has 80 Tesla charging stations and serves classic American diner food — biscuits and gravy, burgers, fries, tuna melts and milkshakes, to name a few of its menu items.

The two-story restaurant can seat about 250 guests and has two 66-foot LED megascreens to show movies and special features. The building has an open-air “Skypad” patio on the second level and guests can place orders from their vehicles’ touch screens or inside the restaurant.

"It’s sort of a shining beacon of hope in an otherwise sort of bleak open landscape, frankly," Musk boasted to investors Wednesday.

He spoke after Tesla Inc. issued another disappointing financial report. The Austin-based electric automaker had a 16% drop in profit and 12% decline in profit in the period from April through June. The company has not reported a quarterly profit increase since the third quarter of 2024.

Instead of focusing on Tesla’s declining sales when he spoke with investors that day, Musk shifted attention to autonomy and artificial intelligence, hyping Tesla’s recent robotaxi ventures in Austin as well as progress on the company’s Optimus humanoid robotics program.

The robots, which Tesla hopes to one day mass produce and sell to work in homes and factories, can be spotted serving popcorn at the Tesla Diner, Musk said Wednesday.

Musk has slowly moved his businesses away from California, opening a headquarters for Tesla just outside of Austin and establishing offices for SpaceX, The Boring Co., Neuralink and X in Texas.

Despite opening its first location in Los Angeles, many have wondered if Musk would open a location in Texas.

One user on X requested a location in Starbase, the South Texas city where SpaceX’s industrial complex and rocket launch facility are located. Musk responded, "Ok."

The town encompasses about 1.5 square miles, and the majority of the surrounded land is owned by SpaceX, where most of the remaining residents work. Starbase is quickly developing though, with a $22 million community center, $2 million multi-family development and a $20 million K-12 school all planned.

Tourism in the area has grown, too, so building a Supercharger Diner there isn't a far-fetched idea.

Musk reshared a post about the possible location, saying "And open to the public!"

Musk hasn’t shared specifics about a possible Texas location, though.

In Wednesday's remarks, he didn't address whether future locations would be possible in Starbase or near the Tesla Gigafactory in Austin.

On X, though, he said that if the California location is successful, he would like more diner locations around the world.

In another X post, he said if the California location goes well, he would like to establish locations in major cities across the world.
