Elon Musk has a new pitch: forget L.A. and New York — “move to Austin,” he says.

The billionaire and Tesla CEO published an endorsement of the city on social media on Wednesday, noting that "world-class people" from major global cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City and London are moving here.

"Move to Austin! It gets better very year," said Musk in the post.

Musk established his Texas foothold in 2020, announcing he was leaving California after clashing with state regulators and arguing the state had grown complacent about its economic success. He confirmed in December 2020 that he had moved his personal residence to Texas, a shift that preceded the relocation of several of his companies’ key operations.

By 2021, Tesla formally moved its corporate headquarters from Palo Alto to Austin. The move followed construction of Tesla’s massive Gigafactory near the Travis–Bastrop county line. SpaceX and The Boring Company have also grown their presence in the Austin area, part of Musk’s broader shift of corporate activity toward Texas.

Musk’s personal living arrangements in Austin have been the subject of frequent speculation. While reports indicated he purchased multiple homes in the Austin area — worth roughly $35 million, according to the New York Post — Musk has publicly denied building a large residential compound, telling Architectural Digest that he does not own or plan to build such an estate.

Musk was responding to a post from Tesla-focused influencer Farzad, who praised the Texas Triangle — the region defined by Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio — as a great place to live. Farzad added that rapid growth and hot weather remain drawbacks.
