Michael and Susan Dell are giving $6.25 billion to fund investment accounts for children in areas where median family income falls below $150,000. The donation is estimated to reach 25 million children across the country — including many in Texas. The Dell’s gift will use "Trump Accounts" established under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to give $250 per qualified child 10 or younger who weren't eligible for the $1,000 seed money.

Under the program signed into law earlier this year, the government will automatically seed an account with $1,000 for each child born from 2025 through 2028.

The Dells will put the money into the accounts of children who live in ZIP codes with a median family income of $150,000 or less. That includes 80% of all ZIP codes in Texas, according to census data from 2023, the most recent year available.

Most of the areas that don’t qualify are in the state's major metros — Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Dallas. It also found that of ZIP codes at least partially within the San Antonio metro area, 89% had median incomes at or below $150,000. In the Austin metro, 74% were below $150,000.
