Tiny Austin suburb will soon get its first Costco, Target stores
The Target location will be among the largest in the world. Here's what to know about the construction.

A flourishing Austin suburb is seeing its very first Costco Wholesale warehouse and its first Target rise up from dirt plots.
Here's what we know about what's coming to Liberty Hill.
Austin suburb getting its first Costco
It's been nearly a year since the membership-only warehouse and retail chain Costco registered a project filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). With construction costs of over $62.6 million, the store will span 160,000 square feet at the intersection of Highway 183 and Seward Junction Loop in Liberty Hill.
Although the project was initially expected to be completed by Nov. 30, it appears construction is still ongoing.
Local residents have shared rumors online that the new Costco will open in March 2026. However, a spokesperson told MySA that a specific timeline or tentative opening date could not be given due to a company policy.
The new locations listed on Costco's website don't include the Liberty Hill store; instead, only those with potential opening dates of October through December 2025 appear.
As of November 2025, Texas had 44 Costco locations.
Liberty Hill also gaining one of the largest Target stores in the world
Also on Highway 183, another retail giant is building a store in Liberty Hill. Construction began at Highway 183 and State Highway 29 in July 2025 and is expected to be completed on June 6, 2026, per the TDLR filing. The $22 million store will be only slightly smaller than the new Costco, at over 148,000 square feet.

Three years ago, Target announced a commitment to building larger-format stores with a more modern design and expanded space.
"Guests and team members tell us they come to Target because they feel inspired, connected and welcomed," Executive Vice President and COO John Mulligan said in 2022. "With our reimagined store design and larger store footprint that better supports our same-day services, we can give guests more of what they love while incorporating features that build on our commitment to sustainability, community and helping all families discover the joy of everyday life."
The new store model reaches nearly 150,000 square feet, an increase of 20,000 from the average store.
