Construction is underway at the San Marcos Buc-ee's on Jan. 27, 2026. The project is slated to open this summer.

The highly-anticipated Buc-ee's location in San Marcos will open soon.

The Texas-based travel center and gas station has grown a cult-like following thanks to its pristine bathrooms and mouthwatering barbecue sandwiches — and luckily for fans, it’s had its eyes on a Central Texas expansion since 2024, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The construction site sits along the Interstate 35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio, and the overall construction cost is expected to rise up to $47 million. Once complete, the new Buc-ee's will occupy more than 74,000 square feet at 3245 N. I-35 in San Marcos. It’s just 19 miles from the nearest Buc-ee’s in New Braunfels.

The largest Buc-ee’s travel center opened to the public in Luling, Texas in June 2024, spanning 75,000 square feet with 120 fueling positions.

This particular location has had several rumored opening dates. The TDLR filing initially had a completion date of December 2025. MySA then reported the travel center would open on May 26 of this year, per the 2025 ground breaking.

Buc-ee’s Media Coordinator Crissy Gonsalez has confirmed the grand opening is scheduled for July, and the company would reveal the official opening day at a later time.

In February, passersby spotted walls up at the site, a sign that construction work is already underway.
