Northwest Austin shoppers will soon lose a longtime neighborhood grocery store. H-E-B announced it will close its location at 12860 Research Blvd. on July 31 after the store's lease expires, marking the end of operations for one of the grocer's longtime sites. The store, located near the intersection of U.S. 183 and Spicewood Springs Road, has served customers since the early 1980s and currently offers grocery, pharmacy, curbside and delivery services. According to H-E-B, employees affected by the closure will be offered positions at nearby stores. The San Antonio-based company said customers will still have access to nearby locations on Research Boulevard, Parmer Lane and North MoPac Expressway. H-E-B also plans to donate $40,000 to local organizations, including Caraway Elementary School, Canyon Vista Middle School, Austin Fire Station #44 and Spicewood Springs Branch Library as part of the transition.
The closure comes as Texas' favorite grocer continues to expand and renovate stores across Central Texas, including new projects and remodels in the Austin area intended to accommodate growth in the city's suburbs. These remodels are expected to finish in 2026.
