Waymo has suspended some driverless robotaxi services on freeways around the US following concerns about performance in construction zones. The company has paused freeway service in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Miami. "Safety is Waymo's top priority, both for our riders and everyone we share the road with. We have temporarily paused freeway operations, as we work to integrate recent technical learnings into our software and expect to resume these routes soon," said Sandy Karp, a Waymo spokesperson. Waymo began testing its driverless robotaxis on Austin-area highways in February but has yet to offer the service to riders in the city. The company has made a series of software updates as a result of safety concerns, including a recall after one of its robotaxis was washed away in floodwaters in San Antonio. Federal regulators have opened investigations into the company regarding a series of safety concerns.
