Texas Disposal Systems, founded by brothers Bobby and Jimmy Gregory 50 years ago, has become one of the largest independently owned waste management companies in Texas. However, the brothers have been involved in a legal dispute for the past four years, with allegations of self-dealing, greed, and stolen confidential business records. This month, a jury found that Bobby Gregory and the companies they owned deserve a $116 million payout.
Attorney Casey Dobson, representing Jimmy Gregory, said the jury believed that Bobby Gregory didn't do right by the companies the brothers owned together. The dispute centers on the ownership and operation of Texas Disposal Systems Inc., which employs nearly 1,200 Texans and processes 6 million pounds of waste daily.
Jimmy Gregory alleged that his brother deprived him of his share of profits, enriched himself at the expense of the corporation, pushed him out of his role as director, and cut him out of decision-making and access to company books. Bobby Gregory denied these allegations and provided a statement accusing his brother of trying to force the sale of the companies, potentially funded by Texas Disposal Systems competitors.
The actual amount awarded will be determined by a judge in the coming weeks, with Bobby stating he will appeal at that point. The judgment could result in large amounts of capital flowing back into Texas Disposal Systems from other entities Bobby owns that received company funds.
