Mr. Monopoly is trading Park Place and Boardwalk for something a little more… Austin. Get ready to mortgage your imaginary homes and collect $200 for passing "Go," because a MONOPOLY: Austin Edition is officially in the works, slated for a 2026 debut.
"Austin has a culture unlike anywhere else across the world – and we aim to ensure MONOPOLY: Austin Edition features an authentic portrayal of what local residents and visitors alike love about the Lone Star State’s capital city," said a spokesperson for the toy brand in a press release.
What makes the cut? Our picks for Monopoly: Austin edition
So, what should make it onto the board? While the final decisions are up to the game makers, here are some prime contenders we're rooting for, and why we think they deserve their spot:
Barton Springs Pool as Park Place
This isn't just a pool; it's a way of life. A spring-fed oasis in the heart of the city, Barton Springs is where Austinites truly unwind. Owning this would be the ultimate power move, guaranteeing endless "rent" from those seeking a refreshing dip.
Continental Club as St. James Place
You can't have Austin Monopoly without music. This legendary venue on South Congress has been a cornerstone of the live music scene for decades. Landing here means you’re either rocking out or paying up for a night of authentic Austin tunes.
Zilker Park as Boardwalk
The crown jewel of Austin's green spaces. From ACL Fest to kite flying, Zilker is where the city gathers. It's one of the most coveted (and expensive) properties because it represents the very heart of Austin's outdoor culture and community.
Lady Bird Lake as Railroad Spaces
Our urban oasis is a hub for kayaking, paddleboarding, and trails. Instead of generic railroads, imagine collecting fees for navigating the waters or using the trail.
'Keep Austin Weird' as community chest, chance cards
Instead of static properties, this iconic phrase could manifest as a special card. Perhaps you "Keep Austin Weird" and collect $50 for attending Eeyore’s Birthday, or you "Lose Your Way in the Weirdness" and pay a fine. It adds a touch of unpredictable Austin charm.
'Congress Avenue Bat Colony' as electric company, water works
A natural phenomenon that draws crowds nightly. Imagine owning the rights to the bats. It’s unconventional, distinctly Austin, and a fun twist on the utility properties.
