It's not his first rodeo: Questlove shows Austin appreciation in 'My Happy Place'

Questlove's choice to host a free DJ set in Austin is no surprise to those familiar with his deep affection for the city. As highlighted in his episode of CNN's "My Happy Place" series, Questlove champions Austin over global destinations like Tokyo, calling it a constant source of creative inspiration. His connection to the city dates back to 1995 when The Roots first toured here.

In "My Happy Place," Questlove showcased Austin's cultural fabric, from rediscovering childhood memories at Breakaway Records to marveling at vintage synthesizers at Switched On. He celebrated the city's live music scene, even joining blues legend Gene "Birdlegg" Pittman on stage at the now-closed Skylark Lounge. His journey through Austin also included visits to unique spots like Toy Joy, the hidden sushi speakeasy Toshokan, and an exploration of East Austin's Black culture at Sam's BBQ.
