Steve Wertheimer, longtime owner of the Continental Club and C-Boy’s Heart and Soul, will receive the inaugural SIMS Foundation’s Sims Ellison Impact Award at their "Music for the Mind" event at Assembly Hall on Sept. 10. The new award is named after Sims Ellison, songwriter and bassist of the Austin band Pariah who lost his battle to depression in 1995, which led his friends and family to start the SIMS Foundation later that same year.
"Music for the Mind" will gather 200 of Austin’s most influential musicians, industry leaders, creatives and philanthropists for an intimate three-course seated dinner, open bar, silent auction and unforgettable live music performances that will be announced closer to the event. The night will be hosted by Liz Lambert, founder of Bunkhouse Group and force behind Austin’s lifestyle getaway hotspots Hotel San Jose, Hotel Saint Cecilia and Austin Motel.
Wertheimer has dedicated nearly four decades to Austin’s music scene. He built a legacy as founder and owner of C-Boy’s Heart and Soul and has owned the Continental Club — the most iconic club on South Congress Avenue — since 1987. His venues have launched careers and nurtured community for generations of musicians. His commitment to preserving the roots of "old Austin," following in the footsteps of his mentor C-Boy Parks, has made Wertheimer one of the most respected figures in the local scene.
Tickets to attend "Music for the Mind" are $250 each with the option to purchase a table for the event, which carries a "Texas formal" dress code. For more information, visit secure.qgiv.com.
