Austin Dumps Another $400K on Abortion Vacations, Former Council Member Sees Red
Oh, Austin, you glorious bastion of liberal lunacy, you're at it again! The city that brought you $150,000 abortion road trips in 2019 is back with a vengeance, quadrupling the budget to a cool $400,000 for what they're calling "logistical support." Because nothing says "reproductive health" like a taxpayer-funded trip across state lines, right?
Old man Zimmerman, that fossil of Austin politics, is back in court, wagging his finger and crying, "But the state Constitution's gift clause!" He's like the Grinch who stole abortion Christmas, trying to rain on the parade of progress. God forbid Austin use public funds to make a political statement while women make a travel itinerary out of a medical procedure.
In true bureaucratic fashion, the city's budget amendment proposal bleats about "healthcare gaps" and "critical support." Meanwhile, Zimmerman is trying to drag Mayor Kirk Watson and City Manager T.C. Broadnax into the muck, seeking temporary and permanent orders to stop the city from playing travel agent.
And get this, Austinites—your city is so above commenting on this nonsense that they didn't even deign to respond to the American-Statesman. Zimmerman, however, promises "commentary at a later date." Isn't that just precious?
This circus has been going on since 2019, with Zimmerman getting smacked down by courts left and right. But like a cockroach, he just won't die. The Texas Supreme Court even vacated previous rulings because Roe v. Wade bit the dust, so now it's back to square one.
Council Member Vanessa Fuentes, ever the champion of squandering public funds, is "fully committed to defending our reproductive rights." I bet she is. Free trips for everyone! Who cares about pesky things like state law, right?
So, buckle up, folks. This vacuum-abortion legal drama is far from over. Austin, you beautiful, infuriating train wreck, never change.
