"Pflugerville Librarian: From Nerd to Money-Grubbing Sellout"

Oh, fuck me sideways, Pflugerville's library is having a "Maker Market" this Saturday. Because who doesn't want to buy some shit made from hot glue and pipe cleaners?

Pfab Lab: Because Crafting in Mom's Basement Isn't Pathetic Enough

Tucked away in the back of the Pflugerville Public Library, where the old staff kitchenette used to be, lies a little room they call the Pfab Lab. It's like your mom's basement, but with more embroidery machines and fewer Cheetos crumbs.

This place is crawling with makers—you know, the kind of people who think knitting is a personality trait. They've got 3D printers, laser cutters, and more crafting junk than you can shake a glue gun at. Because God forbid these people pick up a normal hobby, like binge-watching anime or complaining about women on Reddit.

They've even got events, folks. Ever wanted to make a monthly craft project with a laser cutter? Well, now you can, because apparently, that's a thing people do.

And get this—they're having a Maker Market. On Saturday, Oct. 26, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., a bunch of "local artisans" (read: soccer moms with too much time on their hands) will be peddling their wares in the library meeting rooms. You can buy all sorts of useless crap, like fall-scented candles, crocheted whatever, and art prints that'll probably end up in the back of your closet.

Here are some of the vendors, because I know you're just dying to throw your money away:

  • Fae Atelier: Fall and Christmas-scented candles, because nothing says "I hate my life" like prematurely celebrating the holidays.
  • Kate's Brain: Whimsical crocheted items, because who doesn't need a neon yellow octopus doily?
  • Liz Volpi: Art prints, stickers, greeting cards—you know, the kind of stuff you buy when you want to seem deep but don't actually care.
  • And a whole lot more. Check out the full list here, if you're into that sort of thing.

And hey, they're even showcasing some "young makers," because Lord knows we need to encourage more of this nonsense.

So, if you're into overspending on handmade junk while pretending to support the local economy, swing by the Pflugerville Public Library. It'll be a blast—almost as much fun as living in your mom's basement and complaining about the world on the internet.

Meg Miller is the adult services librarian at the Pflugerville Public Library, and probably spends her free time making dreamcatchers out of her own hair.
