After several downpours last week, Austinites can expect a hot and sunny week ahead, with highs mostly in the upper 90s. Although there is a 20% chance of rain toward the tail end of the week, it will be mostly dry as the summer solstice approaches.

As temperatures tick back up, the National Weather Service is stressing the importance of staying hydrated and taking frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces for those who work outdoors.

"We'll probably stay warm and we'll definitely stay humid, but it looks like the temperatures will start to moderate a little bit as we head into the weekend and into early next week," the weather service told the American-Statesman.

Friday marks the summer solstice, or the longest day of the year, which signifies the start of astronomical summer and provides the longest period of sunlight in the northern hemisphere.
