Dry cereal is a significant part of most Americans' daily routine. According to data from the book "Cerealizing America: The Unsweetened Story of American Breakfast Cereal," Americans consume about 10 pounds, or 160 bowls of cereal, per person each year.
But with General Mills' recent decision to cut some of the popular brands of Cheerios cereal, the changes could spoil people's breakfast.
Here's what to know.
Is Cheerios getting discontinued?
Published reports show that General Mills is canceling three fan-favorite dry cereals: Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch and Honey Nut Cheerios Minis.

What did General Mills say about the Cheerios cancellation?
General Mills hasn't yet addressed the Cheerios cancellation through its social media accounts or an official news release.
It makes this scene from HBO's "The Wire," played by Michael K. Williams, hit a little close to home. Williams' character "Omar" walks into a bodega looking for his beloved Honey Nut Cheerios to no avail, asking the clerk, "Y'all ain't got no Honey Nut?"
Did these cancelled cereals have a long run?
According to Geekspin, General Mills introduced Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch in 2013 and released Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios in 2017.
Honey Nut Cheerios Minis were released in 2023.
