Both parents of a female infant who was reportedly found deceased in a Texas motel room a year ago have been charged with her murder.

On May 26, 2024, four-month-old Brooklynn Fancher was discovered unresponsive inside a dresser drawer at a Days Inn in Houston's west side, where she was then pronounced dead, ABC Houston reports. The baby died by suffocation, the medical examiner concluded.

Baby Brooklynn had allegedly been sleeping in the dresser drawer, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. Her parents, Jeremy Fancher and Destiny Campos, had been living at the motel for over a year. Investigators say the infant was put in the drawer so Fancher and Campos could have sex, according to local news reports.

Destiny Campos, 21, was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail on June 20 on a $300,000 bond, and Jeremy Fancher, 38, was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on June 21 on a $850,000 bond. Both face murder charges for the death of Brooklynn Fancher.

Authorities have also arrested Marilyn Jennifer Mork, who is allegedly Jeremy Fancher's current girlfriend, and charged her with hindering apprehension. She was also booked into the Tom Green County Jail on June 21, but the bond amount was unavailable as of Tuesday afternoon.

Grandmother says infant's death was 'unfair'

Brooklynn Fancher's grandmother and Destiny Campos' mother, Lisa Farrell, spoke to ABC Houston after Campos' and Fancher's murder charges were filed, expressing relief at the news.

"I think they should spend the entirety of what her lifespan would be in prison," Farrell said. "Due to the fact that (Brooklynn) will never graduate, never get married, never have her own kid. They took that away from her and that's unfair."

"I don't have anything to say to her because when I seen her, she didn't cry. She didn't show remorse losing her child. And that bothers me."

ABC Houston reports Campos and Fancher have another child, who is three years old and now lives with his great-grandmother. Campos is pregnant with her third child with a different man, court records show.
