A man is dead after allegedly opening fire on Border Patrol agents in a McAllen facility Monday morning.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed the presence of an active shooter as well as his death at the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector Annex, stating "the incident is still under investigation."

According to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security, the man was armed with a rifle and tactical gear when he began shooting at law enforcement officers. He was shot and killed after Border Patrol and local police returned fire.

The man was identified as 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda, according to the Associated Press. Authorities say another rifle and more ammunition were found at the scene. Mosqueda's motives remain unclear.

One officer was reportedly injured in the incident, but it was uncertain if the injury was inflicted by shrapnel or a bullet.

Both federal agencies promised more information would be shared as soon as it becomes available.

This is a developing story.
