The parents of a third Austin child confirmed Friday that their daughter died at Camp Mystic in Kerr County after floodwaters swept through the campground along the Guadalupe River in Hunt.
In a statement, Matt and Kristin Pohl described their daughter Abby as having "a magical life force that filled the room with light and laughter. Her quirky sense of humor and the mischievous twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes made her a magnet for others, many of whom claimed her as their '''best friend.'"
"The Pohl family is so grateful for the outpouring of love and support in a time of such unimaginable loss," the statement said. "They ask that representatives of the media respect their privacy during this time."
Abby, who was 8 years old and a student at Casis Elementary, is the third child from Austin confirmed to have died in the July 4 flood.
At least 96 people — 60 adults and 36 children — have died and more than 160 are still missing in Kerr County.
Linnie McCown, who attended the same school, also died in the flood, her father Michael McCown said in a statement this week.
Mary Stevens, who attended Highland Park Elementary School in North Central Austin, also died at Camp Mystic.
Her family said in a statement: "Our family is completely devastated by the loss of our beloved Mary at Camp Mystic. This is a tragedy that no parent can prepare for...We continue to keep the fellow campers, staff and families in our prayers — for their rescue and return home."
