Just over one week after deadly flooding devastated Central Texas — killing more than 130 people and leaving 160 still missing in the deadliest flood in decades — severe weather returned to the region on Sunday.

While recovery continues along the Guadalupe River — which rose to 40 feet and tore through riverside Camp Mystic, an all-girls camp where dozens were killed — flash flooding sent the Lampasas River surging from 10 feet to more than 30 feet in what residents described to local news organizations as one of the most intense floods the area has seen.

In a post on X, Abbott wrote that Task Force 1 had already rescued dozens in the region, though rain continued to fall well into the afternoon.

Several counties remain under a flash flood threat Monday, with rain chances continuing through Tuesday. Drier conditions are expected to return later in the week.
