No Central Texas hospitals made the U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals Honor Roll. In fact, only Houston Methodist Hospital in Texas made that list.
In the best hospitals in Texas list, Baylor Scott & White in Temple was the highest ranked Central Texas hospital at No. 7. Among Austin-area hospitals, St. David's Medical Center made No. 9, followed by Ascension Seton Medical Center at No. 15. St. David's South Austin Medical Center ranked No. 19. Baylor Scott & White in Round Rock and Lakeway ranked No. 25, and St. David's North Austin Medical Center ranked No. 31.
For this purpose, Baylor Scott & White's Round Rock and Lakeway locations are combined because they share the same Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services code.
"These rankings reflect our teams’ dedication to quality and innovation, as they make the trusted care for which Baylor Scott & White is known more convenient, personalized, and informed," said Pete McCanna, CEO of Baylor Scott & White Health. "We are deeply committed to transforming the experience by listening to our customers, anticipating their needs and exceeding their expectations."
The other Central Texas hospitals were unranked. Children's hospitals are ranked on a separate list that comes out in fall.
U.S. News and World report evaluated 581 hospitals in Texas and almost 5,000 nationally. The rankings look at patient outcomes, patient experience surveys and care-related indicators such as staffing rankings and expert opinions from a physicians' survey. For its ranking, U.S. News & World Report uses data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and an American Hospital Association survey.
U.S. News & World report also ranked hospitals by specialty. Only one, St. David's, made the list in a specialty. Its rehabilitation program was ranked No. 34 in the nation.
"These recognitions are a testament to the incredible work of our associates across our footprint in Central Texas," said Jamie Youssef, CEO of Ascension Texas. "We are committed to live out our mission by providing the highest quality of compassionate care to the communities we are privileged to serve."
You can look at the each hospital's profile to see how it ranked and which specialties it earned a "high performing" mark, which means the hospital was in the top 10% but didn't make the top 50 ranking list for that specialty. Ascension Seton made the "high performing" list for orthopedics.
