Over three dozen people have been displaced after a fire engulfed an apartment complex in East Austin early Thursday morning.
First responders arrived around 2 a.m. to a complex in the 6400 block of Springdale Road, where several car fires had spread to a nearby apartment building, according to the Austin Fire Department. Firefighters were able to fully extinguish the flames while preventing any critical injuries.
Eight apartment units and three cars were burned, resulting in the displacement of 26 adults and 11 children, authorities said. The Red Cross was brought to the scene to assist apartment management.
The only reported injury was a firefighter who suffered heat exhaustion while battling the blaze, according to the department.
