Bishop Daniel E. Garcia was formally installed as the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Austin at St. William Catholic Church on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025. Appointed by Pope Leo XIV in July, Garcia was celebrated by over 30 bishops from Texas, California, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, along with 460 clergy and religious sisters, 255 parish representatives, and about 100 Catholic school principals and students. The ceremony also included family, friends, and special guests.

Archbishop Joe Vasquez of Galveston-Houston and Christophe Cardinal Pierre were among those applauding Garcia during the installation. A native Texan, Garcia previously served as Bishop of Monterey, California.

During the ceremony, Garcia displayed his Apostolic Letter of Appointment, signed by Pope Leo XIV, and celebrated the Eucharist. The event featured a procession by the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, prayers by clergy, and a sermon by Garcia. A statue of St. John the Evangelist adorned the altar as parishioners witnessed the historic occasion.
