The Lee County sheriff was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to county jail records.
Garrett Christian Durrenberger was booked into the Lee County Jail at 6:52 a.m. after being arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety during a traffic stop. He was released less than two hours later on bond, jail records show.
"The Lee County Sheriff’s Office remains fully operational and will continue to provide professional law enforcement protection and services to our citizens and guests," the office said in a statement confirming the arrest.
The county sits east of Williamson and Bastrop counties.
Durrenberger became sheriff in July 2023 after his predecessor, Casey Goetz, resigned for personal reasons. He was appointed to the position following an application process, despite losing to Goetz in a 2020 primary. He was reelected in 2024 after running unopposed.
