Officials at the Texas-Mexico border seized 500 packages of methamphetamine — believed to be worth roughly $10.3 million — hidden in a lettuce shipment on Friday, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Upon flagging the commercial vehicle for further inspection as it attempted to enter the U.S. from Mexico at the Pharr International Bridge, officials found the packages concealed in the shipment of salad greens.
The meth totaled roughly 1,153 pounds, CBP officials said, calling it "a salad unfit for this year’s Thanksgiving table" in a press release.
Officials seized the meth and the vehicle. CBP did not say if charges had been filed, but said the Department of Homeland Security is investigating.
