Crews extinguished a fire at an under-construction apartment building in the 4600 block of South Pleasant Valley Road on Sunday, Dec. 7. No injuries were reported, according to the Austin Fire Department. The fire, visible from Highway 71 and Interstate 35, left South Pleasant Valley Road closed for several hours Sunday evening.

Some Redditors captured video of the flames, with u/userbruiserdooser writing it "got pretty apocalyptic in Franklin Park for a second" and that they evacuated after "watering down" their roof.

One commenter, u/outofcontext89, wrote that the fire occurred directly behind their house and it was "kinda terrifying." They wrote that "the fire was blowing hot ash directly into their backyard," but as of 9:10 p.m. Sunday, "none of the houses have caught fire and everyone is safely shivering outside."

Another commenter, u/Odd-Balance-2265, reported a "loud explosion" and "embers and wads of fire balls" falling down in the area.

The Austin Fire Department has not released the cause of the fire.
