City of Austin offices will close on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, but core services, including curbside trash pickup, utility payment options and most parks, will remain available with a handful of holiday changes, officials said.
Administrative offices and most municipal facilities will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24; Thursday, Dec. 25; and Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
Will my trash be picked up on Christmas?
The biggest impact for many households will be curbside collection. During both the Christmas and New Year’s weeks, Austin Resource Recovery will shift Thursday and Friday routes by one day: Thursday pickups will move to Friday, and Friday pickups will move to Saturday. Monday through Wednesday collections will remain on their regular schedule.
Residents can confirm their pickup day through the Austin Recycles app or at austintexas.gov/myschedule.
Some drop-off options will also be limited. The Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and Austin Water’s Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant will not accept yard trimmings or large brush drop-off on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.
Can I pay my utility bill on Christmas?
City utility payments will still be processed during the closures. Customers can pay online at coautilities.com or by phone at 1-833-375-4949, and in-person payments will be accepted at most H-E-B, CVS, Randalls and Walmart locations.
Can I still go to a park on Christmas?
Outdoor recreation will largely continue as normal. Most city parks will remain open, though Zilker Park’s Great Lawn will be closed.
Golf courses will be open on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day, with the final Golf ATX reservations issued at 10 a.m. Dec. 24.
City aquatic facilities will be closed, except Barton Springs Pool, which will be open unguarded.
