Wrong-way driver causes fatal crash near Austin airport; northbound U.S. 183 closed at McCall Lane

A wrong-way driver caused a fatal, multi-vehicle crash near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Sunday morning, prompting police to close all northbound lanes of U.S. 183 South in the area.
Police received multiple 911 calls around 9:30 a.m. reporting a driver traveling down the wrong lanes of U.S. 183 in Southeast Austin, officials said. Crews arrived shortly before 9:45 a.m., when they found a multiple-vehicle crash with at least one fatality.
Officials are diverting all northbound U.S. 183 traffic at the McCall Lane southbound turnaround as investigators and cleanup crews work, police said.
