A Frisco teen died and another was critically injured in a sledding accident on Saturday, Jan. 24. The two girls were riding on a sled being pulled by a vehicle, when the sled hit a curb and crashed into a tree.

The accident was reported to local police just before 2:30 p.m., according to a release from the City of Frisco. The police and fire departments responded to the call and attempted life-saving measures on the girls, who were both 16. They were taken to a local hospital, where one died of her injuries. The other was in a critical condition as of Sunday.

Initial reports say a 16-year-old boy was driving a Jeep Wrangler that pulled the sleds. The identities of the three teens involved were not made public. The incident is under an active investigation, aided by the Denton County District Attorney's Office.

"The Frisco Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragic incident," the press release says. "Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time."

Officials warned the public of "extremely slippery surfaces" as a result of snow and ice. They urged people to remain vigilant, stay indoors when possible, and avoid unnecessary outdoor activity in wintry conditions.
