When authorities detained Samuel Boardman, 39, on Monday after he allegedly fled a southeast Austin homicide scene where his girlfriend was shot in the head, police said he declined to speak.
Despite Boardman's lack of statement, investigators alleged he was responsible for the shooting in the 5900 block of Wagon Bend. At 12:30 a.m. Monday, Austin police responded to a call reporting that a woman had been shot and was bleeding from the head. The caller advised the suspect was still nearby, police said. When they arrived, police said they found 45-year-old Denise Tijerina in the kitchen suffering from a gunshot wound and transported her to a hospital.
Boardman was located nearby and was arrested on an aggravated assault charge after a preliminary investigation determined that he supposedly shot Tijerina before fleeing, police said.
On Tuesday, Boardman was released from jail on a $5,000 bond. A day later, Tijerina died from her injuries in the hospital, and police issued a first-degree murder warrant for Boardman. He was re-arrested on Wednesday.
Boardman previously served jail time on several drug-related charges. In 2023, Boardman was fined and sentenced to 18 months probation after being charged with assault on a family member.
