The Travis County Sheriff’s Office on Monday identified the man fatally shot by an off-duty Austin police officer during a shooting at a barbershop near Pflugerville as Jefferson Josue Rodas of Pflugerville.
Authorities said they are not releasing additional details about the suspect or the ongoing investigation at this time.
The shooting happened just after 6 p.m. Friday in the 1700 block of Crystal Bend Drive, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators say Rodas entered the business and opened fire on people inside. An employee was shot and fled to a nearby home, where they were later taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
An off-duty Austin police officer who was inside the barbershop returned fire, fatally striking Rodas, officials said. Rodas' motive remains unknown.
