The Austin Police Department responded to a crash under the overpass near the 11th Street bridge Tuesday night. An 18-wheeler carrying an oversized load became stuck under the Austin overpass and took more than six hours to remove, officials said. Austin police responded to a call about the crash shortly after 6:30 p.m.
The crash took place at 1100 N Interstate 35 NB, under the overpass near the bridge at E. 11th St. A truck was carrying a load that was “too tall” and became lodged under the overpass.
Police coordinated a removal operation and used wreckers to clear the truck out from under the bridge and off of the road. Some northbound lanes on I-35 closed while crews worked to remove the truck. Roads were fully cleared by 1 a.m.
A representative with the Texas Department of Transportation said the structural integrity of the bridge wasn't compromised during the incident.
