Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde was on lockdown Monday morning after a shooting nearby, with local law enforcement responding.

Principal Julie Wiley sent a message to parents stating that the lockdown alarm was activated at 8:34 a.m., when a shooting occurred near the school.

Deputies from the Comal County Sheriff’s Office were called to Mustang Vista near the school after reports of gunfire. One person was transported to the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound, but the victim's identity is not yet known.

It is not clear whether a suspect is in custody.

The lockdown was still active as of 9:20 a.m., but the "threat has been contained," Wiley said in another update.

Law enforcement said the building was secured and students and staff are safe.

Students will be transported to the campus of Bulverde Middle School, located at 29975 Wiley Road in Bulverde, for reunification with parents.

The public is asked to stay away from the area if not picking up a student so deputies can continue to clear the scene.
