The rescue revealed its new “branch manager in the making” last Friday, after Austin Animal Services officers responded to reports of a lone beaver kit strolling down the sidewalk. When the officers' search for its family came up short, they took the baby Buc-ee and brought it to AWR.

“A baby beaver is a true rarity for us, so this fuzzball is an extra special surprise this week,” the rescue said.

How did the baby beaver end up in Austin?

The rescue said the beaver arrived weak and cold. Staff believe it may have been washed from its den during recent rainstorms.

After some initial “beaver tantrums,” staff were able to bottle-feed the animal. The rescue said the kit is now doing well.
